Anna Skold, MD Named Physician Lead for Medical Ethics

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is pleased to announce that Anna Skold, MD, has been appointed as our first Physician Lead for Medical Ethics. In this role, she will serve as Kaiser Permanente of Georgia’s resource and representative on issues related to medical ethics. The creation of this role will help develop and recognize our Regional ethics activities and strengthen our involvement with the national ethics workgroup.

Dr. Skold will help represent our interests at the national level as part of KP’s Inter-Regional Medical Ethics Committee (IRMEC), which encourages pursuit of health for patients in a manner that honors biomedical, personal, social, and spiritual values. Locally, she is available to provide advice, education and guidance on medical ethics topics and to help clinicians address patient and organizational cases and issues. She will also review and create local and national policies that address issues of medical-ethical relevance and importance. We also envision her playing a key role with MAA, MAG, and other legislative and policy bodies, to support delivery of high quality ethical care to all members of our community.

Dr. Skold joined TSPMG in 2012 and is part of our Palliative Care team. Her experience will be especially valuable as she partners with other departments and initiatives to develop programs that document and respect individual’s choices around end of life care and more comprehensive advance care planning.

Lateefah Watford, MD, Named TSPMG Chief of Behavioral Health

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is pleased to announce that Lateefah Watford, MD, has been named Chief of Behavioral Health. In this role, she will provide strategic leadership and clinical management accountability for this highly visible department.

Dr. Watford joined TSPMG in 2012 and currently serves as the Lead for the Behavioral Health Team at the Kaiser Permanente Southwood Comprehensive Medical Center. She received her medical training at Morehouse School of Medicine, completed her residency at Indiana University School of Medicine and her fellowship at Emory University. She is Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry.

Before joining Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Watford worked in numerous roles where she gained extensive leadership experience. As the Chief of Behavioral Health she will be responsible for ensuring that the department is efficient, effective, appropriately staffed, and meets member and organizational expectations for high quality, accessible care.

Stephen Sudler, MD, Named Physician Program Director, Digital Health Services

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is pleased to announce that Stephen Sudler, MD, has been named Physician Program Director, Digital Health Services. In this newly created role, he will serve as TSPMG’s physician lead for digital services innovation, strategy and development across all digital platforms (e.g. mobile, telemedicine, text, social media, and web). The role works closely with the Program Office to ensure regional alignment with KP’s strategic vision, facilitate regional implementation, and ensure operational readiness for new digital initiatives.

A practicing Ob/GYN physician, Dr. Sudler has applied his lifelong interest in using technology to improve lives to all aspects of his clinical care. He has been a member of the Informatics department since 2004, most recently as Physician Lead. He has served as our liaison with IMBills, as our Physician Champion for Meaningful Use, and on our Complex Case management and Transition of Care Committees. He has also represented the Georgia Region on several Kaiser Permanente National groups, including the Consumer Facing Technology Think Tank, Secure Text Messaging, Registration Group, Mobile App Rater Project Team (Innovation Fund), and Fetal Monitoring Device Integration projects. He also works with EPIC Developers to improve KP HealthConnect. In addition, he is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) Task Force on Telemedicine/EHR, which works on issues related to Telemedicine/EHRs that may have originated from legislation, administrative rule or payer payment policy.

Dr. Sudler joined TSPMG in 1998 and currently sees patients at the Kaiser Permanente Gwinnett medical office. He received his medical training at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh. He is Board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology. He is also Board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Clinical Informatics, a new medical specialty with fewer than 1,000 diplomates.
