Barby Simmons, DO, Named TSPMG Physician Program Director for Coding and Documentation

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG) is pleased to announce that, effective March 17, Barby Simmons, DO, has been named Physician Program Director for Coding and Documentation. She will report to Leslie Litton, TSPMG VP Business Execution and Informatics.

In her new role, Dr. Simmons will lead efforts to improve the accuracy and completion rates of our coding and documentation, identify and incorporate educational best practices from other Kaiser Permanente regions and industry leaders, and oversee our various coding and documentation audit practices and dashboards. She will also take the lead on our ICD-10 implementation, which is a critical part of Kaiser Permanente of Georgia’s 2014 business strategy.

Dr. Simmons received her medical degree at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine. She joined Kaiser Permanent in 2010 and has served as Lead Adult Medicine Physician at the Southwood MOB since 2011.

We want to thank Angel Cobiella, MD for his support and leadership over the past few months as Interim Physician Program Director for Coding and Documentation. His expertise has been invaluable and we look forward to continuing to work with him in his position as Physician Program Director for Informatics. Matthew Hoffman, MD Named Physician Director for Inpatient Resource Stewardship

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG) is pleased to welcome Matthew Hoffman, MD to his new role as Physician Director for Inpatient Resource Stewardship. Matt will continue to practice Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and expand his role to enhance the delivery of Resource Stewardship in the inpatient setting.

Matt, who was born in Illinois and grew up in Michigan, has lived in Atlanta since graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After a brief stint in the business world, he attended Emory University for medical school, internal medicine residency, two years as a hospitalist, and a pulmonary / critical care fellowship. As a hospitalist, Matt was the physician lead for internal medicine on Emory Midtown Hospital's Morbidity and Mortality committee, and also spearheaded a quality improvement initiative to improve the use of telemetry. He joined TSPMG in August 2012.

Matt’s strong interest in systems improvement, accompanied by his many years of providing inpatient care, will help us continue delivering the right care to the right member at the right time and right place.


Dr. David Jones Named TSPMG Assistant Chief of Pediatrics

Please join The Southeast Permanente Medical Group in welcoming David Jones, MD to his new role as Assistant Chief of Pediatrics.

Dr. Jones is a well respected clinician who received his medical degree from Medical College of Virginia and completed his residency at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He joined TSPMG in 2001 as a pediatrician at the Kaiser Permanente Panola Medical Office.

Dr. Jones previously served as Pediatrics Lead Physician and Managing Physician at Panola. He also represented the Pediatrics Department as a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, as well in the role of Physician Champion for Healthy Weight initiatives.

In addition to his new role, Dr. Jones will continue serving as Assistant to the Medical Director for UBTs, as well as the Pediatrics Lead Physician at the Sandy Springs facility, where his clinical practice is located.
