Rob Schreiner, MD, FACP
Michael Doherty, MD

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG) announced today that Rob Schreiner, MD, FACP, is stepping down as Executive Medical Director, effective March 28, 2014.  Michael Doherty, MD has been named as Interim Executive Medical Director.

Dr. Schreiner joined TSPMG in 1994 as a pulmonologist and was elected Executive Medical Director in 2008. He is well regarded for his clinical expertise and deep commitment to his patients and colleagues. Dr. Schreiner has accepted a new role with a well known consulting firm where he will use his knowledge to improve the delivery of healthcare throughout the U.S. medical system.

Dr. Doherty is currently serving as TSPMG’s Chief of Staff. He will serve in the Interim role until a new EMD is named and ratified by TSPMG shareholders.

TSPMG is widely recognized as a leader in patient care and quality and was instrumental in Kaiser Permanente of Georgia being named as one of only three Medicare Advantage 5-STAR plans east of the Mississippi. The TSPMG Board of Directors will conduct a thorough search process for a leader who will continue the organization’s marketing-leading achievements in quality, patient safety and clinical care.

Several TSPMG cardiologists recently came together to help support The American Heart Association’s 33rd annual Atlanta Heart Ball.

The Heart Ball provides the Atlanta community with a fun and engaging way to join the fight against cardiovascular diseases, which remain the No. 1 killer of Americans.

Last year, the AHA's Heart Ball campaign raised over $59.7 million nationwide to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. TSMPG is proud to play a role in furthering the mission of the AHA, whose vision so closely mirrors ours at Kaiser Permanente.

Dr. Pamela Vick-Bope Named TSPMG Chief of Pain Management

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is pleased to announce that Pamela Vick-Bope, MD, has been named as the Medical Group's first Chief of Pain Management. She will continue to provide a wide range of interventional pain procedures and medication management in our Kaiser Permanente Southwood and Glenlake Medical Offices.

Since joining our medical group in 2010, Dr. Vick-Bope has embraced and embodied our model of care. She is an extremely hard worker who clearly leads by example and is always willing to share her knowledge with colleagues. She is also a strong advocate for the patient, carefully balancing the right and appropriate amount of care.

Dr. Vick-Bope received her undergraduate degree from Duke University. She completed her medical degree and residency in Anesthesiology at the Medical University of South Carolina and a fellowship in Pain Management at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. She is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

We are also making changes to the Pain Management department that will ensure patients receive care from an appropriate specialist, improve patient satisfaction and access, and increase clinician satisfaction.

As a first step, we are adding physiatrists to the group. Physiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in non-surgical physical medicine and rehabilitation for patients who have been disabled as a result of a disease, condition, disorder, or injury. Our TSPMG physiatrists will evaluate and treat musculoskeletal pain and refer to appropriate specialists as needed. The mid-levels in the pain management department will work alongside our newly hired physiatrists. This model of care has been proven successful in other KP regions and will help us establish a true multi-disciplinary pain management department.

We have no doubt that Dr. Vick-Bope will do an excellent job of leading and transforming the department in a way that will better serve our patients.
