Thomas Cooney, MD Named TSPMG Inpatient Resource Stewardship Director

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is pleased to announce that Thomas Cooney, MD has been named Inpatient Resource Stewardship Director for Piedmont Hospital.  In his new role, Dr. Cooney will be responsible for physician support of acute care rounds and managing hospital bed days at Piedmont Hospital.  He will also be involved in the Transitions of Care work and working to reduce hospital readmission.

Dr. Cooney brings four years of acute care experience and a strong knowledge of acute care utilization to his new position. He joined TSPMG in 2011 as a Hospitalist after working in Hospital Medicine at the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Rochester.

 

 


 

Helen Ward, MD, named TSPMG Senior Physician Director for Resource Stewardship

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is pleased to announce that Helen Ward, MD, has been named Senior Physician Director of Resource Stewardship. Dr. Ward, who joined the Resource Stewardship department during the summer, has demonstrated her enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring our members get the “Right care, in the Right place, at the Right time,” using the most appropriate resources. She has a passion for problem solving, a direct communication style and excellent analytic skills that are well matched to the goals of the department, and we look forward to working with her in this expanded role.

 


 

   

TSPMG Internalizes Vascular Surgery

The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is happy to announce that Bashar Ghosheh, MD has joined the medical group to provide Vascular Surgery care to Kaiser Permanente of Georgia members. He will see patients at the Glenlake Medical Office for consults and minor outpatient procedures. Services will focus on diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular conditions, such as open and endovascular treatment of carotid, aortic, and upper/lower extremity vascular conditions and varicose vein treatment. We expect to expand Vascular Surgery to the Southwood Medical Office in the near future.

Dr. Ghosheh received his medical degree from the University of Cairo (Cairo, Egypt). He completed his residency in General Surgery at The University of Mississippi and a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. He is Board certified in General Surgery.
